Generation Y

Synonyms: gen Y, millennials

Generation Y, also known as the Millennial Generation, is the generation born between 1980 and 2000. This generation is the first to come of age in the new millennium, and as such, they are often referred to as "digital natives."

This generation is marked by an increased use and familiarity with communications, media, and digital technologies. For example, most members of Generation Y have grown up using the Internet, and they are comfortable with communicating via text and social media.

Generation Y is also known for being the most educated generation in history. According to the Pew Research Center, 36% of Millennials have at least a bachelor's degree, compared to just 28% of Baby Boomers.

In addition, this generation is often characterized as being more open-minded and tolerant than previous generations. For example, a majority of Millennials support same-sex marriage and think that marijuana should be legalized.

Finally, Millennials are often described as being more individualistic and narcissistic than previous generations. For example, they are more likely to believe that they can achieve anything they set their mind to, and they are more likely to prioritize their own needs and wants over the needs of others.
